In "ZIP It Up, Sneak It In," we explored how Android malware leverages various evasion techniques, particularly focusing on ways malware authors use ZIP compression and the AXML structure to bypass detection mechanisms. By studying these evasion strategies, we shed light on the evolving tactics in Android malware development and strengthen Android’s security framework.

After sharing our findings with Google, we were honored to receive a reward recognizing our efforts. I am thrilled to announce that we have donated this reward of $10,000 to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF)! This contribution felt like a natural choice, as their mission to enhance online security and defend digital rights closely aligns with our goals. EFF’s commitment to a free, open, and secure internet has been a source of inspiration throughout even the first steps of my career, and I’m proud to support their impactful work with this donation.

Why EFF?

EFF's work in defending privacy, free speech, and innovation rights has long been impactful for those of us in the cybersecurity community. Their initiatives and legal battles directly support a safer and more transparent online world, and it’s encouraging to know that this donation will go toward fueling more of that essential work.

Thank you to Google for the recognition and to EFF for all they do. I’m excited to continue contributing to a safer and more open digital landscape.
